Medicare Fraud Presentation at the Centre Hall Area Branch Library
CENTRE HALL, PA (November 7th, 2024) – On Tuesday, November 12th, at 10 AM the Centre Hall Area Branch Library will host Bill Wade, a representative from the Center for Advocacy for the Rights and Interests of Elders (CARIE) and a member of the Centre Hall community for a 30-minute presentation about Medicare fraud affecting seniors. This event has been organized as part of the Senior Medicare Patrol national initiative administered in Pennsylvania by the nonprofit CARIE. Its aim is to curb Medicare fraud through outreach, education, and advocacy. Wade will discuss different types of Medicare Fraud and how to avoid them. While the event is intended for Seniors, caregivers of seniors are also welcome to attend. Registration is required as space is limited. Please call the library at 814-364-2580 to sign up.
Centre Hall Area Branch Library Manager, Kathleen Edwards, explained that she has been working to host more adult programming at the library so she agreed to take CARIE up on their offer to host a program about Medicare fraud. Wade, the presenter, even lives in the Centre Hall Area. Edwards added that “seniors should attend the event because it is about such an important topic. Scammers and fraud can have devastating consequences so it’s always important to get information to help prevent that from happening.”
This library event is also part of the Pennsylvania Library Association’s larger PA Forward initiative, which seeks to show that “with the right support, libraries are ideally positioned to become the community centers of information, technology, and learning that will fuel educational and economic opportunity for all of our citizens.” By offering programs that cover basic, information, civic and social, health, and financial literacies, Pennsylvanian libraries aim to equip Pennsylvanians with the skills they need for success in all areas of life. The upcoming Medicare Fraud event aligns with PA Forward’s commitment to both information and financial literacy, empowering seniors and their families to navigate and protect their personal medical and financial information.
