Holt memorial library installs building improvements
PHILIPSBURG, PA (January 31, 2024)— Sometimes it seems that libraries get progressively more beautiful and useful by magic. Logically, we know that is not the case. Libraries are improved, maintained and built due to the hard work of their supporters and staff.
Recently, the Holt Memorial Library in Philipsburg installed new lighting and upgraded some of their electrical outlets. The new lighting, made possible by a gift from the Friends of the Holt Memorial Library, now brightens the children’s fiction section and the new book display. This is only the latest support that the Friends have provided to the Holt Memorial Library, as the Friends of the Holt Memorial Library has been a vibrant and active group since 1962. You can help the Friends support the library by joining the group or by shopping at their monthly book sales!
New electrical outlets have been installed to make it possible to plug in kitchen appliances at the library. This is so that the library can offer the community a space to host nutrition education programs. The library currently offers a program dubbed “Kids in the Kitchen” once a month as part of its STEAM activities. The program teaches elementary aged children basic kitchen safety skills and offers nutritional snack ideas that youth can replicate at home with a parent’s supervision. Additional kitchen appliances at the library would allow expansion of this program. The funding for this improvement was provided by a field of interest grant of $2,047 from the Centre Foundation. Specifically, the grant comes from the Philipsburg Area Fund at the Centre Foundation. This fund was created by more altruistic Philipsburg residents, just like the Friends of the Holt Memorial Library.
Stop by the Holt Memorial Library soon and enjoy the improvements. Now you know that they weren’t created with magic, just with some elbow grease and good will from Philipsburg residents.
