Exciting Fire Safety Event For Kids Coming to Bellefonte!

BELLEFONTE, PA (September 13, 2024) – On Saturday, September 28th, from 12 PM to 4 PM, the Bellefonte Library will host a hands-on fire safety event designed specifically for kids and their families. This engaging event, organized by their children’s librarian, Megan Strommer, promises to be both educational and fun.

Held in the fire station of Logan Fire Company NO. 1, right across the street from the Bellefonte Library, the event will feature a unique opportunity for children to learn critical fire safety skills. Firefighters from Logan Fire Company NO. 1 will lead a “show and tell” session, showcasing real firefighting equipment and explaining how these tools are used in emergency situations.

After interacting with the firefighters, children and families can participate in a mock fire situation inside the Fire Safety Lab, provided by the Centre Region Code Administration. This simulation will allow kids to practice responding to a fire emergency in a safe and controlled environment, helping them build confidence and knowledge that could one day save lives.

“This event is designed to empower children to respond effectively and appropriately in case of a fire emergency,” said Megan Strommer. “The Fire Safety Lab is going to give kids the opportunity to be in a situation that might be scary for them and then learn how to act appropriately. This is so that they are less likely to be in danger in the event of an actual emergency.”

The event is drop-in style, so families are welcome to stop by anytime between 12 PM and 4 PM. Whether you can stay for the entire event or just a short visit, the experience is sure to be valuable and memorable for all attendees.

This library program is part of the Pennsylvania Library Association’s larger PA Forward initiative, which seeks to show that “with the right support, libraries are ideally positioned to become the community centers of information, technology, and learning that will fuel educational and economic opportunity for all of our citizens.” By offering programs that cover basic, information, civic and social, health, and financial literacies, Pennsylvanian libraries aim to equip Pennsylvanians with the skills they need for success in all areas of life. The upcoming fire safety event aligns with PA Forward’s commitment to health literacy, empowering children and families to make informed decisions and respond appropriately in emergency situations.

Don’t miss this fantastic opportunity to teach your children how to stay safe in case of a fire—join us on September 28th for a day of learning and fun!
