Begin an adventure with your public library this summer

BELLEFONTE, PA (June 3rd, 2024)— Loyal library patrons know that something is always going on at the library, but activities are typically kicked up a notch during the summer. Traditionally, this is because kids are out of school and educators and parents alike are afraid of the “summer slide”, or a tendency for students to lose some of their educational achievement gains during the summer break. At Centre County Library & Historical Museum, we believe that summer library activities can be special for all ages and abilities, not just school children. So, we host the Summer Library Pursuit every year. It’s a six-week library extravaganza where everyone, no matter their age or ability, can participate in events, activities, goal setting, reading and more. There are prizes too! The more you participate in the Summer Library Pursuit, the larger chance you have to win those prizes. For those who are not prize motivated, participating is still a blast. The Summer Library Pursuit makes the summer a time of growth and fun for everyone, forget about the “summer slide”!

The Summer Library Pursuit will be your gateway into adventure at the Bellefonte Library, the Centre Hall Area Branch Library, and the Holt Memorial Library in Philipsburg between June 17th and July 27th. The program this year is designed around the theme, “Adventure Begins at Your Library,” and you can believe that we have amazing library adventures planned for you and your family. When you register for the program, you will receive your own “library passport” based on your age or ability. This will help you to document and remember your activities and accomplishments throughout the summer. If you prefer to track accomplishments on your phone, you can do that too by using the Readerzone app. Each week, we will bring participants to a new scene of adventure, from fantasy spaces to your own backyard. Storytimes, book clubs, crafts, reading lists, and more are planned for each week, modeled after the weekly adventure type. Unique events–the likes of which you never expected–will also occur at our libraries throughout the program. For example, we have tea parties, trivia nights, mocktail mixing classes and more prepared for you (or your family members) to enjoy. As you participate, learning and having fun as you go, you’ll earn raffle tickets that you can use to enter drawings for prizes.
